Curated: Girls Weekend Getaway To Prince Edward County

The Canada Day long weekend is barely behind us, and it already feels like the summer is rushing by, yet we are still daydreaming about our perfect girls weekend getaway to Prince Edward County.  PEC, dubbed ‘the new Niagara’ by some, boasts over 40 wineries, all set amongst quaint towns and historic sights, nestled along the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario (just 2 hours east of Toronto).  And there is a lot more to do than just tasting wine (not that we needed more)… from breath-taking beaches, to boating, hiking, cycling, and a selection of local farm-to-table goodness, there is something for the whole family.  We decided a girls roadtrip was long overdue, and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the summer, than with a quick little ladies adventure.

IMG_0978Where we stayed:  The FERG.  Situated in the cute little town of Picton, Ontario, The Ferg (named for it’s original owner, Arra Ferguson, from the 1800’s) is an adorable historic house transformed into a 3 unit boutique accommodation.  Deliciously decorated in clean minimal Scandinavian style, with art and furniture pieces curated from around the county, every last detail gives off cozy country vibes.  Our unit in the main house included two bedrooms, a full bathroom (complete with soaker tub), a full kitchen, a furnished patio, a BBQ, a blue-tooth sound system, and of course, is wi-fi ready (including netflix… so you can really chill).  Within a few blocks of the local supermarket, main street shops, the LCBO, and only a short drive to the beaches and local attractions, The Ferg is perfectly centred in the heart of it all.  As an added bonus, the house came stocked with yoga mats, and co-owner Anna is a certified yogi available for private or group lessons on site (seriously… you had us at hello).IMG_0949

IMG_0884The beach:  Sandbanks.  Our first stop was some good ol’ fun in the sun at Sandbanks Provincial Park.  The dunes in particular are a must-see for Ontario travellers.  We were lucky to arrive to 30 degrees and sunshine, and water that felt like heaven.  Don’t forget your SPF!

The dinner with a view:  Fans of The Drake Hotel in Toronto might be familiar with their newer addition, The Drake Devonshire (in Wellington, Ontario).  This swanky little waterfront resort has all the classic vintage Drake-ish elements one might expect (like a trending patio, a ping-pong table, and every room is unique), but we went there mainly for the dinner with a view (worth it).

And, last but never least,

The wine:  We visited a few wineries on our adventure, including Rosehall Run, where we loved the pinot noir, and our fave was the nearby, Norman Hardie Winery.  There we enjoyed a chilled glass of their signature riesling, paired with a wood-oven margherita pizza, and another gorgeous view of this savoury slice of Ontario.
